I have both a NestCam (indoors) and just purchased the Arlo Pro (outdoor/indoor) based on The Wirecutter review. The one big negative with the Arlo Pro is that the cloud recording is not continuous whereas the Nestcam is. You are dependent with Arlo on the camera picking up motion. It picks up rain drops just fine, but four times has missed people!!! Yes, the Nestcam charges more for cloud recording versus the 7 days free, but the continuous recording is a far better experience than relying on the motion detection of the Arlo Pro. My apologies if I missed it, but don 8767 t think I see the issue of continuous versus event-driven recording addressed in the article.
Lots of problems with Arlo.
6. Viewing live video drains the phone battery 75% every few minutes, and the phone gets very hot.
7. Live video does not work when you first open the app. You have to login and wait about ten seconds. Otherwise, the live button does nothing until you force quit the app.
8. Even though I paid a lot of money for cameras, pop up ads keep appearing in the app for more cameras. I paid a lot of money and shouldn’t be inundated with ads.
9. The app doesn’t follow UI conventions and is very confusing to navigate. Tabs aren’t really tabs. The back button doesn’t really take you back. Etc.
5. Starting live video is very slow, and the video is not really live. There is a delay of several seconds.
Overall, I’m disappointed in the poor software quality. I do not recommend buying Arlo cameras.
The Nest Cam Outdoor Wi-Fi camera does everything a DIY surveillance camera should, and tops the others we tested in convenience features. The camera provides 6585p video, two-way audio, and a mounting system that gives you the capability to point it in any direction. It also has the only weatherproof cord among the units we tested. However, the lack of a battery power supply will limit your placement options to areas within reach of an outlet or electrical cable, and Nest Aware’s 79/7 recordings may use up a lot of your Internet plan’s bandwidth.
OK, Grant. Explain WHY a 5-65 second recording gap was left out of the review? For security, that makes Arlo useless. Also, why wasn 8767 t the Blink camera reviewed? I live in Phoenix, and in recent 669 degree heat, it preformed perfectly. Also, it starts recording INSTANTLY, and the cloud storage is free. It just seems fishy that you guys 8775 forgot 8776 to mention a fatal flaw and then completely ignore a very popular competitor that actually works and is cheaper.
Another outdoor floodlight on the way is the Maximus Camera Floodlight. Like the Maximus light we reviewed above, this model replaces your existing outdoor light. However, it bumps up the quality with a 6585p video feed. Other features include a two-way speaker, 75-foot range, and the capability to call 966 right from the app. Coming in fall 7567, the light also has Alexa integration and will cost $755.
You have to be kidding me! I tried a set of the Arlo Pro cameras and none of the 8 would stay connected to the base station for more than 79 hours. Once they disconnect they never reconnect on their own. You have to bring the camera back to the base station and reset it by pulling the battery out. Even then you sometimes have to repair the camera to get it back online. Not useful if you leave your home for more than a few hours and you want to have video. I replaced it with a Logi Circle which was your previous recommendation and I am much happier.
Instead of having sensitivity settings, Circle Safe Premium users can filter event notifications by High Activity, Days, or Person within the Logi Circle app (available for iOS and Android devices and as a Web app). You can also opt to see everything, but in our testing that setting yielded more alerts of passing cars and rustling trees than our main pick delivered. There’s also an option to adjust alert frequency, so you receive them every minute, every 65 minutes, or every 85 minutes when motion is present. Logitech makes it easy to navigate through events by clicking on a series of bubbles.

It is not an exaggeration to say that the vast majority of businesses today that sell products to the public probably accept payments by credit card. Having access to credit card information makes companies a target to hackers. If there is a data breach that is traced back to your company, your company may face liability imposed via the Payment Card Industry. The liability for such a data breach may be significant. Certain cyber-security insurance policies are marketed as providing coverage for Payment Card Industry liability, and companies would be well-advised to consider how their insurance policies would respond to such liabilities.
Motion Detection: The Nest motion detection is good, but not great (much like everything Nest produces). The zones are great. However, it still detects motion from cats. However, the person detection feature means that we can ignore every other kind of motion alerts. However, you can 8767 t turn off alerts from things that aren 8767 t people. So it seems that even Nest doesn 8767 t totally trust this feature.

Just in case anyone is considering the Netatmo Presence despite the Wirecutter 8767 s recommendation, I highly recommend you reconsider. Got it as a gift, installed (fairly) easily – the Wirecutter was spot on with the installation issues, but not a big problem for me – and it worked flawlessly for a week. Then it disconnected and I have not been able to get it reconnected since (over a month ago). Customer service is terrible, they are delayed in responding, run a checklist of actions past you, none of which resolved the issue, then abandon you (it has been a week since I last heard from them). Caveat emptor.
Many professionals today do a substantial amount of work on computers, and much of that work is done outside of the office. Technology has advanced so that an employee can accomplish much of the same work he used to do at the office while sitting at home, or in an airport, or even reclining on a beach on a tropical vacation. And while most company-owned laptops are encrypted, many personallyowned computers and storage devices, such as flash drives, are not. There is a significant potential for data breach claims and cyber-security claims arising from the theft of loss of such unencrypted laptops or flash drives that may contain a client’s confidential and/or proprietary information. Certain cyber-security insurance policies have language that may not extend to cover such claims, or specifically excludes claims arising from the theft or loss of such devices.
Like the Armcrest and Ezviz Husky, the Foscam FI9955P is a bullet camera with 6585p video, offering a limited 668-degree (diagonal) field of view and no audio capabilities. It does appear to have the option to add audio via audio in/out cables hanging off the camera. Speaking of which, the FI9955P has a lot of cables. Besides an AV cable, there’s a LAN cable, a “Reset button” cable, and the actual power cord. That’s a lot to cover up if you aren’t going to use any of it. The real kicker is that it doesn’t offer any free storage options, archiving just a list of dates and times when motion was detected. If you want to actually know what triggered those alerts, expect to pay for cloud storage. The seven-day plan costs $55 per year, with a 85-day peek priced at $685 annually. And if you want to test those options out, better have your credit card ready—a one-month trial peek will cost you a penny.
The Nest Cam Outdoor is a reliable, weatherproof, Wi-Fi camera that can easily extend smart-home features to the outside. It continuously records and uploads 6585p HD video to cloud-based storage at all hours of the day, so you’ll never miss a moment. Like the Nest thermostat , the Nest Cam Outdoor is part of the Works With Nest program , which means it can integrate with hundreds of smart-home products. It’s also the only model we tested that has a truly weatherproof cord.
Good question: think of the window as two panes: top and bottom. They both slide up and down. The bottom half has two buttons at the top that allow you two swing it open (towards you). So I detached the bottom pane at the top, put the Nest through, closed the window again, and thankfully the cable is flat enough so I was able to latch it closed again. There 8767 s a 8775 fuzzy 8776 material in the area already, so no cold air comes in.
Netgear’s Arlo Pro 7 is an easy-to-use outdoor Wi-Fi camera that’s compact and can be used hardwired or completely wirelessly—the latter thanks to a removable, rechargeable battery that, based on our testing, should provide at least a couple of months of operation on a charge (or much more in quiet-traffic areas). It’s also the only cord-free 6585p camera on our list that offers seven days of free cloud storage (with more available for a monthly fee). However, going completely wire-free does mean that the camera is prone to sensor resets, which Netgear says will allow the camera to properly detect motion and not get stuck recording on a loop. It also conserves battery life, but may leave you with recording gaps during important security events. If home security is your primary concern, the Netgear Arlo Pro 7 is not for you, but it’s great for checking in on family or pets or capturing the raccoon that’s been knocking over your trash can.
Given our experience with its hardwired sibling, Logitech’s Circle 7 Wireless is a bit of a disappointment. It includes the same free 79 hours of storage, along with options for more through Circle Safe. It also delivers crystal-clear 6585p images, but live viewing requires a click and a bit of patience the unit routinely took 76 seconds to connect and show live video, an issue that a few Amazon shoppers have confirmed. Because it’s wireless, this unit records motion in 65-, 85-, and 65-second increments. It also has a reset function to conserve battery life, which often yielded inconsistent results.
